1977 Triumph Stag Mk II Manual
Effectively one
owner from new; showing only 34,000 miles (believed to be correct); recently
come out of storage; very tidy but needs recommissioning -
AMENDMENT - We have now been advised that included in the sale is
the original hard top (not in good condition) and a replacement hard top in
good order
Since the day this Stag was first registered in
February 1977, it has been owned by the same person, until our vendor discovered
it very recently. Initially registered to his business, Hawthorne Service
Station, the car was transferred to the business owner, Colin Wood, in 1982. The
original sales document and the current V5’s on file confirm this to be the
case.
We understand that although the car was used fairly regularly in
the 80s and 90s, use was reduced considerably over the next decade or two, hence
the mileage and overall condition. The latest MOT certificate in the file shows
34,519 miles and the speedo currently shows just over 34,700. We understand that
the speedo was moving and correct only last year but it has now stopped working
so although the mileage is believed to be under 40,000, it may not be absolutely
accurate.
Unfortunately, Mr Wood became unwell and having owned this
Stag for so long, decided to bring in the services of First Place Respray in
Tipton (no invoice on file) to bring it back to life. They worked on the body
and the respray but time and bills started to add up. JS Classic Motor
Services were brought in to finish the job in 2019/2020, aiming to make
sure Mr Wood was able to have one last drive. Sadly, we understand he became too
unwell to have his drive and JS CMS were asked to do as much as
possible so he could at least see his old friend one last time. By March this
year, with Covid restrictions, this was not possible either and sadly Mr
Wood passed away a little later. Via his solicitors, SRE 412R now needs a new
home.
After the initial welding, dismantling and respray was done by
FPR, the experienced JS CMS had the car delivered to them and completely rebuilt
the engine to a high standard and were then tasked with putting everything
back together asap for the ailing owner.
It was decided to go all the way in
true Car SOS style and the car was eventually brought back to life with new
battery, wiring, cables, hoses, lights, seals, side panels to the boot, Triumph
badging, not to mention a new fuel tank, brake master cylinder, radiator and of
course a good polish. On file are invoices for most of this work and
if you are so inclined, a number of photographs showing the progress can be seen
on the Facebook page of JS Classic Motor Services.
This car has been
very close to one mans heart for many years so now it is time for a new
custodian to take over and enjoy being part of a 1970s dream. Excellent
provenance and although a lot of the hard work has been done, prior to any work,
it had been stood for about 25 years so there is still recommissioning needed
for the road, including the suspension, calipers and other smaller parts that
may have deteriorated over the years.
