First tranche from major private collection nets over £100,000
The first parcel from the superb cellars of an East Midlands collector attracted worldwide interest at Brightwells’ recent auction of Wine, Port, Champagne and Whisky. The sale attracted bidders from Hong Kong, the US and Scandinavia as well as all around the UK and Ireland.
The auction took place on 12th June at the Leominster Saleroom and featured over 1000 lots. The sale totalled in excess of £200,000.
Over 400 lots of Claret were offered, many in the large formats of Magnum (1.5lt), Double Magnum (3lt), Jeroboam (5lt) and Imperial (6lt). The top priced Bordeaux on the day was £6,000 for a single bottle of Petrus 1945.
Brightwells’ Head of Wine Sales Paddy Shave said the cellars were the best he’d seen in 30 years. ‘The gentleman who owned the collection had a real passion for fine wines, he built a cellar complex that provided perfect storage conditions for over 8,000 bottles!’.
An excellent Burgundy section featured some real rarities including 12 bottles of Domaine de la Romanee Conti La Tache 1976 (sold at £15,000).
Brightwells will hold their next auction of Wine, Port, Champagne and Whisky on Wednesday 14th August. This will feature the second section of Bordeaux from the East Midlands and an exceptional private collection of Vintage Port.
