59,212 miles; useful upgrades including electric seats with TV screens and
reversing camera; fantastic old school Merc styling and some good recent
expenditure
Supplied new to the Japanese market in 1975, this lovely
Mercedes 250 made its way over to British shores in early 2019 before getting UK
registered in June 2019 since when it has had just two owners.
As a 250
variant, this Paul Bracq-designed W114 is fitted with the same bullet-proof
single cam 2.8 straight-six engine as fitted to the preceding W108 model, mated
to four-speed automatic transmission and sending all the power to the rear
wheels.
Being a later facelift model, this Mercedes boasts a lower
bonnet-line, lower and broader grill, a single front bumper to replace the
double bumpers, lower placement of the headlamps, A-pillar treatment for keeping
the side windows clear, removal of the quarter-windows in the front doors,
ribbed tail lights and larger side mirrors. The interior received inertia reel
belts and a padded steering wheel.
A look through the history file shows
a Sigma Cat 1 alarm system has been fitted along with four new tyres in January
2023. In October 2019 the dash and door cards were recovered in black leather
along with new door cards in the rear and new carpets. More recently, a new
battery was fitted in April 2024 and the carburettors were rebuilt along with
some other minor jobs the following month.
As is typical with Japanese
imports, some quirky yet tasteful additions have made their way into the car
including later electric seats with rear headrest-mounted TV screens, a larger
rear-view mirror with reversing camera and a tasteful hideaway flip-up radio. An
owner's handbook and a workshop manual are also present to assist you in
getting familiar with the car.
Running and driving nicely on site, this
super cool Merc looks great in black with green Sundym glass and would make an
excellent addition to any collection.
