Showing just
99,432 miles on the odometer; good nick for its age; stylish and bullet-proof
motoring at a modest guide price
First registered in August 1980
and showing just 99,432 miles on the odometer, this Mercedes 230 W123 is fitted
with the bullet-proof 108bhp four-cylinder carb-fed 2.3 petrol engine mated to
four-speed automatic transmission.
Although there are no invoices for
recent expenditure, there is a good-sized history folder showing regular upkeep
from the mid-1990s to 2012 where we can see servicing was an almost annual
occurrence. As you would expect with a W123, only very minor remedial work has
taken place, mainly on wear-and-tear items such as brakes and a replacement
carburettor in May 2011 and a replacement exhaust in 2005.
Although now
MOT-exempt and free to tax, the history file also shows a good handful of old
MOT certificates that demonstrate MOTs were a regular although not quite an
annual occurrence up until 2010 when its last MOT expired. The original service
book shows four stamps dated September 1980, June 1981, October 1983 and the
last in May 1985.
In decent shape for a 45-year-old, wear to the interior
is commensurate with the age and mileage and the bodywork looks reassuringly
straight with just a few areas of
paintwork beginning to show their age (see photos).
Running and driving
very nicely on site, this 230 has a huge amount of life left to give and it
wouldn’t take much to get it back in gleaming condition if
desired.
