Lot Ended
Description
Stalled restoration due to ill-health; painstakingly rebuilt to a very
high standard, component by component by competent retired engineer; lots of
money spent sourcing parts; low mileage original XR4x4 shell; rebuilt
V6 engine, boxed and detailed parts inventory along with information from
vendor; most of the hard work done
Dating from December 1992,
this late model Ford Sierra XR4x4 saloon was acquired by our Sierra enthusiast
and engineer vendor in 2007 after the car had been put into dry storage in 1999
(last tax disc still in the windscreen!) when the car had covered just 46,603
miles as a very good, clean and rust-free low mileage rolling
shell.
The vendor’s intent was to
keep it as an excellent rust free spare shell for his other daily driver Sierra
XR4x4, but this was never needed, his other 2.9 24v Sierra is still on the road
and going strong at 342,000 miles - quite the testament to the car and our
vendor’s rigorous maintenance schedule and skill set.
As a result, our
man opted to keep the shell and rebuild it to as good as, if not better than new
spec with a historically correct engine given his perfectionist
nature.
Many new parts were sourced at
considerable cost, and if not, were cleaned and fully refurbished by our vendor
to an extremely high standard over the years.
Unfortunately, our
vendor has suffered various health problems, and he is reluctantly unable to
complete the task. Looking at the
car, and the lengths he has gone to, its clear the quality of workmanship is
high and the attention to detail as keen as it can be.
The fully rebuilt
engine and gearbox have been refitted to the car for ease of transit, but the
engine cannot be started, it is not 'plumbed in' to fuel/electrics as shown, nor
are the drive shafts fitted (though present). Please note, this is not the
original engine, thus the engine number quoted on the V5C is incorrect and will
need to be ammended.
This is also apparent in how
the car has been presented with detailed lists of parts carefully wrapped in
numbered boxes with inventories along with a multi-page dossier on the car,
what’s been done etc. – too much to mention here – but please let us know if you
would like to have a copy emailed or see on viewing
day.
Once complete, and we
understand that pretty much all required should be present including some
spares, it must surely be one of the best in the
country.
The history file includes the
V5C showing just 3 former keepers to our vendor, photos, the detailed dossier on
the car and lists of parts included along with 3 or 4 boxes of
parts.
