Description
Super rare (1 of just 400 built for the global market) pre-merger AMG
fitted with the 280bhp 3.6 litre straight-six engine; identical looks to the
later E55; recently recommissioned after a few years in storage; black leather
interior; a real wolf in sheep's clothing in a cracking colour scheme with
period AMG Monoblock alloy wheels
Dating from
January 1997 this rarest variant of the W210 series of Mercedes E-Class is an
E36 AMG, and comes from the ‘Pre-Merger’ era of AMG/Mercedes involvement and as
such, makes it somewhat collectible with the pre-merger AMG cars on the ‘What’s
Hot List’ of collectible German cars.
One of
less than 400 built for the European market between 1996-1997 in this spec, it
is finished in a dark Blue/Purple colour and sits on original 17”
AMG Monoblock wheels with discreet AMG bodykit and AMG branded, polished exhaust
tips. It has been de-badged so few would know how special this really
is and looks identical to its bigger pre-facelift E55 AMG
brother.
Under the bonnet, we find the AMG
fettled 3.6-litre M104.995 six-cylinder engine (based on an evolution of the
E280 engine) which produces 276bhp and 385NM of torque driving the rear wheels
via five-speed automatic transmission, similar to that found in the C36 AMG of
the same era. The dash to 60mph took
6.7 seconds with a limited top speed of 160mph.
Inside, we find a black leather interior, dark wood trim, electric
windows, electric mirrors, electric front seats with driver and passenger
three-stage memory, cruise control, park assist, drop-down rear head rests,
digital climate control with AC, Panasonic radio/CD player, traction control,
folding mirrors and electric rear blind.
The
car shows 108,634 miles, and presents beautifully, its paintwork shining thanks
to a recent stage 2 machine polish, the interior showing little, if any signs of
wear and the car starting and running as it should.
The history file includes the
V5C, Owner's pack and a few bills for recent works following time in storage
including ignition coils, a HT lead set, service kit/work and some minor welding
repairs for the last MOT which is valid until February 2025 showing one minor
advisory only.
A rare car and one worth
putting away given the rise in value and demand of these earlier pre-merger
AMG models particuarly at this appealing estimate.
Bidders please note,
there is a minor mileage discrepency where it looks to have been noted down
incorrectly by a few hundred miles with the car in storage between mot
tests.
