Description
Imported to the UK from Alabama in 2007; restored and converted to
RHD; MGB 1.8 engine and 5-speed gearbox; only 8,500 miles since restoration;
current owner 12 years; a sporty-looking MGA ready to enjoy
As the Heritage Certificate
confirms, this MGA 1600 MkI Roadster was built in July 1959 as a LHD model
destined for the American market and was originally Old English White with a
black interior, disc wheels and a heater. It came back to the UK from Alabama in
January 2007 by which time it had been repainted in red.
Shortly after arriving here it was treated to a major restoration
which included conversion to RHD, a repaint in blue, fitment of a 1.8 MGB engine
and a 5-speed 'Hi-Gear' gearbox plus more comfortable seats from an MGB, as
shown in photos on file. Old MOTs imply that the odometer was re-set to zero.
Our vendor, the second UK owner, acquired the car in April 2012 and
has covered some 8,000 miles in it since. He reports that it runs and drives
well and it has certainly been starting promptly and running sweetly as we have
moved it around on site, with good 60psi oil pressure.
As you can see in the photos, it looks pleasingly sporty with a
Monza-style alloy fuel cap, MotaLita steering wheel, external bonnet straps,
additional front air vents, front bumper delete, uprated headlights and a
stainless steel exhaust system. It comes with a full set of weather gear (hood;
side screens; tonneau cover), all in good condition.
Reassuringly
straight and solid, both above and below, all that lets the side down is the
paintwork which has a few blemishes here and there, as pictured. Ready for a new
owner to enjoy, this pepped-up MGA is on offer here at a tempting guide price
and is not so shiny that you will be scared to use it!
