Description
Three owners from new; 106k miles with 19 services to date; wonderful
interior; a fine example of this luxury Coupe from the era of peak
Benz
The
Mercedes-Benz W126 S-Class saloon was launched in 1979 as the company's flagship
model to replace the outgoing W116. Styled by Bruno Sacco, it was packed with
advanced safety features for the time, such as airbags, seatbelt pretensioners,
traction control and ABS brakes.
In 1981 a more
sporting two-door coupe SEC version was launched with an all-alloy 5-litre V8
engine producing 252bhp and 300lb/ft of torque - sufficient to whisk the car to
60mph in less than 8 seconds and on to a rock steady 145mph. Rated as one of the
best and safest cars in the world, its natural environment was the outside lane
of the German autobahn where its immense performance and utter stability at
speed won it many plaudits. Subtly improved over time, it remained in production
until September 1991 by which time 30,184 had been sold, the vast majority in
LHD.
Supplied new by Mercedes-Benz Woking in
March 1992, this lovely SEC must be among the last made. Finished in Astral
Silver with a black leather sports interior, it has had just three owners from
new and has covered 106,500 miles to date with an excellent service history
comprising 17 stamps in the book, the last at 90,503 miles in June 2014.
There is also an invoice for an oil service and
new front brake discs and pads in April 2019 at 96,718 miles and another for a
major service in April 2022 at 98,387 miles which included fresh engine oil,
gearbox oil, power steering fluid, brake fluid, coolant, new rear brake pads and
air con re-gas. That makes 19 services in all, giving an average service
interval of just 5,600 miles. It also had a new windscreen in 2014 and was
professionally waxoiled underneath in 2016.
As
you can see in the photos, it looks great and has presumably been kept
garaged for most of its life, judging by the quality of the paintwork. The
interior is equally clean and tidy with heated black leather seats, cruise
control, electric sunroof, rear privacy glass and beautiful woodwork. It also
has a limited slip diff, all the options being recorded in a print-out on file.
Starting instantly and running beautifully as we
have moved it around on site, with a lovely V8 burble from what looks to be a
stainless steel exhaust system, it has an MOT until February 2025 with no
advisories recorded.
One of the nicest examples
we have seen, this pampered SEC comes from the era of ‘peak Benz’ and is on
offer here at a very tempting guide price. They don’t make cars like this
anymore – look after it properly and it will outlive all of us…
