Description
Restored in the mid-Nineties and lightly used since; rebuilt engine
with Peter Burgess Stage 2 unleaded head and fast road cam; previous owner 27
years; driven to the sale
Supplied new by Rumford Motor Company
of Essex in May 1975, this Jubilee Edition MGB GT comes to us in a 'use and
improve' state, with a large history folder and some choice
upgrades.
Our vendor purchased this GT earlier this year from a
gentleman who had owned the car for 27 years. Under his ownership in the mid to
late '90s the car underwent quite an extensive restoration along with some
choice upgrades, as detailed in typed notes on file. The work included a full
body restoration and respray; a full engine rebuild with a Peter Burgess Stage 2
unleaded head and fast road cam supplied by Moto Build; the gearbox and
overdrive unit were reconditioned; new brake callipers, brake lines and master
cylinder were also fitted along with an impressive list of major and minor works
and parts.
The restorative works from the '90s were clearly of a high
standard and the bodywork still looks good today, although there are a
couple of scratches and scrapes and the rear sills are showing some small areas
of rust which will need attention (see photos). The interior looks good,
the cloth seats have worn well and the dash looks smart. The Webasto roof slides
freely and will be a nice touch for the summer months.
The history file
is large and shows lots of expenditure for serviceable items, the most recent of
which includes a new battery in April of this year, new clutch master and slave
cylinders in July 2014 and a gearbox mount in July the previous year. Although
now MOT-exempt, it has an MOT until 9th May 2024 with no advisories recorded.
There are also 24 old MOTs on file which show that it has been tested most
years since the early 2000s, any failure points being put right and the car
being re-tested.
Showing just 65,510 miles which seems likely to be
correct, judging by the history file, this MGB looks most attractive as it
is and could be smartened up over time as desired. It is only reluctantly for
sale because our vendor's wife thinks he already has more than enough cars in
his collection and some of them need to go before she does!
