Restored ex-Texas Type 2 Camper; rebuilt 1600 engine; VanWurks
interior with cooker; rock 'n roll bed and Fiamma pull out
awning
Dating from January 1971, this cool
old VW Type 2 Camper came into the UK in May 2013 and was registered here in
February 2014. It had come in from dry state Texas where we understand it
remained in 40-year ownership and sat in the desert for many
years.
It was imported as a rolling shell with
just its wheels, shabby seats and a steering wheel, without engine or ‘box. The van has since been painstakingly
restored and rebuilt by well renowned King Of Cool in
Mid-Wales.
The engine fitted is a rebuilt
air-cooled Beetle 1600cc lump, with the interior coming from VanWurks in
Manchester, custom built to a high standard with ample storage, twin gas cooker,
powered sink, gloss black lids, fridge, removable table and chequered
hard-wearing floor.
The seats, door cards and
bed were trimmed by a specialist trimmer in South Wales in blue and ivory
continuing the retro theme and look well. In addition, we find an 8-Ball
gearknob, black headlining with LED downlighters and leather wrapped steering
wheel.
Externally, once restored, the shell was
re-painted in silver with black decals, chrome mirrors, delux window trim and
the original bumpers which were heat treated to add some colour to the original
dinks and marks. The wheels are 15”
Empi Porsche style wheels in silver and black to match the van’s theme with
adjustable lowered suspension. We also note fitment of a Fiamma pull-out
awning and useful bike rack.
The history file
includes the V5C showing just one former keeper (the importers/restorers) and
the vendor who has owned it since July 2014, copy US Title, original advert from
King of Cool with detail and photos of the restoration, VanWurks interior
installation instructions, two old MOTs, HMRC correspondence, old V5C, a
selection of user manuals and the original metal Texas license plate that’s been
turned into a cool clock.
The Van has recently had new rubbers on the
tail gate and rear window seals along with a new battery, new rear wheel
cylinder and brake fluid as well as a service by a VW specialist in Raglan to
the tune of some £3,250 in February 2023 with some images of what was done
included on the invoice.
Ready to be enjoyed
this is a cool bus that will turn heads and give you a King of Cool
feeling.
