1974 Ford Escort MkI 1300GT

Remarkably sound and original four-door in very good order throughout; LHD French market car imported from sunny Portugal in 2020; super underneath

Supplied new to the French market in July 1974, this Ford Escort 1300GT is in truly remarkable condition throughout and appears to be highly original in all major respects. The underside is particularly impressive and indicates that the car must have led a very pampered life to date, the vendor importing it from sunny Portugal in October 2020.

The vehicle ID plate under the bonnet shows that the car was originally finished in Walnut Glow (paint code 7), a shade which we presume is not too dissimilar to the bronze/gold it wears today, although clearly it has been repainted at some point in the not-too-distant past. The Minilite-style alloys are also later additions and look virtually new, as do the tyres.

The only defects of any note are a shallow dent in the rear left door and some split seams in the front passenger seat squab, as shown in the photographs on our website. Starting promptly and running well as we moved it around for these photos, it has an MOT until March 2023 with just one minor advisory for the offside rear service brake binding.

Documentation includes a V5C, current MOT, 1 old MOT, import document with NOVA reference and a Portuguese Historic Vehicle Certificate.

One of the smartest and most original MkI Escorts we have seen, it would surely be hard to find a better, more honest example. The car was driven to the sale from North Shropshire, the vendor declaring it to be super, receiving lots af admiration along the way.
